As a destination for
biotechnology research, development and outsourcing, Thailand combines
the best of China and India while avoiding many of the problems that
plague both.
THAILAND’S PARTICIPATION IN BIO
2007: THAILAND’S
BIO INDUSTRY DEMONSTRATES IT IS GAINING CRITICAL MASS Thailand’s recent participation in BIO
2007 in Boston showcased this growing change. Based on years of
work, Thailand has emerged as a growing Asian base for biotechnology.
Thailand’s booth
was visited by several thousand visitors in the course of the three day
show who all came to learn more about the Thailand Science Park, Thai
opportunities for clinical trials, Thai developments in agro biotech
plus some exciting research opportunities in insect fungi and other
natural products.
- Thailand's BioPark - integrated
biotechnology infrastructure comes to the fore
- "Super Rice" - Thailand takes the

Patent registration was secured first
with the US Patent and Trademark Office. This is being followed by
patent applications in another seven countries – specifically
Australia, France, China, Vietnam, Japan, India and the Philippines.
The registration marked the first time Thai researchers had received
patent protection for genetic material and showed that Thailand’s
capacity in biotechnology was now world class.
