Thai Firms to Invest More in Viet Nam

- Vietnam News, 04-11-2008

BANGKOK — Viet Nam is still ripe for business and investment opportunities despite the global economic crisis, a recent seminar held in Bangkok heard.

Speaking at the talks, chairman of the US-Viet Nam Chamber of Commerce Christopher Runckel said the Vietnamese Government had worked to ensure a sustainable economic growth rate, improve its investment climate, perfect the legal system and improve transparency in management.

This has helped Viet Nam become an attractive destination for foreign investors and has laid the basic foundations for them to consider investing in the country, he said. Viet Nam also boasts a stable political environment and skilled labour resources, he added.

A young and cheap workforce was also a plus point for Viet Nam, Adviser for Viet Nam at Bangkok Bank Wittaya Supattanakul said.

Yungyong Putthapipat, executive director of the Thai packaging company under the Siam Cement group said his company has poured a lot of investment into Viet Nam.

The company now holds about 18 per cent-share of Viet Nam’s packaging market, the director said. — VNS
